WELCOME TO RUSSIAN SCHOOL

As the sole Russian school in San Francisco with a ten-year curriculum, The Russian School provides students with a comprehensive education that seamlessly integrates spiritual and secular teachings. We cherish our traditions, embrace novelty, and uphold timeless values.

BRIEF HISTORY

The Sts. Cyril and Methodius Russian High School, located at the cathedral, holds the distinction of being the oldest Russian school in San Francisco. It was established shortly after the founding of the parish, which was dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God, known as the "Joy of All Who Sorrow." Preserving Russian culture was a paramount concern for the first wave of Russian immigrants, thus prompting the establishment of the school.

Throughout the years, the High School has undergone numerous transformations. In 1947, it was revitalized under the guidance of Archimandrite Afanasy (Stukov), who continues to be fondly remembered by his former students.

RUSSIAN SCHOOL TODAY

Today, the school maintains its spiritual and educational endeavors under the guidance of Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, along with the deputy director, Bishop Theodosy of Seattle. They follow the original vision and direction set forth by the school's founders and devoted supporters. The students engage in a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses the study of the Law of God, Russian language, literature, the history of the Christian Church, and the rich heritage of Holy Russia. They also immerse themselves in Russian culture and Church Slavonic, while enjoying participation in singing classes.

With classes held three times a week as an extracurricular program, the academic workload can sometimes be demanding for the children. However, the friendly companionship they experience with their peers and the nurturing relationships they develop with their teachers make their efforts worthwhile. Moreover, the students and their parents find great joy in celebrating traditional Russian Christmas parties and graduation ceremonies, which feature captivating theatrical performances.
